The Much Better Body-fied Bun

I found this idea from a blog titled "Life is so Demanda" She posted a video on how to create this amazing full of body bun without the ever so trendy right now sock bun.  The sock bun is great, if you have long un-layered hair and some good amount of time in the morning. I achieved this look in less than 5 minutes. It's just a pony, some teasing, wrapping, pinning and hairspray. I have extremely thin hair and you would never be able to guess that with how thick this bun looks. Click on the link and watch this girls video is so simple and anyone can do it."Life is so Demanda"

Thanks guys!

36 Pieces and a Hat

I went shopping today and when I returned home I realized that I was at a loss for hangers. First thing I thought was "do I really shop that much?" Well, apparently I do, and I also hang everything. So, second thing I realized is that I need to do a little cleaning out of my closet to make room for fall clothes coming up and because I need hangers.
Cleaning out a closet is something that just needs to be done, you never know what you'll pull out of there that you haven't seen in a year.
3 Steps to cleaning out your closet:
1. If you haven't worn it in the past year (allotting time for all seasons) TOSS IT.
2. If you've had it for a while, and like it, but you have absolutely nothing to go with it. Face it, you've been shopping numerous times with plenty of opportunities to find something to go with it. TOSS IT.
3. If it is a special occasion item, such as a dress, think about it, if you have already worn it, then you most likely have plenty of pictures in it and you won't wear it again. And hey, what girl doesn't love an excuse like a special occasion to go shopping for something new? TOSS IT.
I got rid of 36 pieces of clothing and a hat. What's better? I'm going to sell them and make money off of them. I usually take mine to Plato's Closet, but any consignment type shop will do. Make sure if you do this, all of the clothing is clean and free of stains, rips, holes, etc. What ever they don't want, I usually take to goodwill.
Follow these simple rules and you will be on your way to a cleaner, healthier closet and hopefully some cash in your pocket!

SPOILED

Spoiled is how I feel being a part of the Vogue Influencers Network. I receive beauty samples all the time, purses and wallets (THANKS TO BRAHMIN). My latest gift was from The Glossy Collection and it is the Glossy Medium Arno Tote in black! I am not sure what I did to deserve this, it was such a surprise but I am so thankful. I use it everyday and try to stuff as many things as possible in it. The durability is great. I received the Anytime tote last year and it's still going strong! Paycheck willing, I am about to order one with polka dots!
unknown.jpg

In about 3 months I will be headed to NEW YORK also courtesy of Vogue.  I won a trip through Vogue Influencers, I am receiving the opportunity to have a meet and greet with a market stylist, have lunch with a representative from QVC AND sit in on a trend discussion at Vogue. Every time I speak of it, I almost have a heart attack. I can not wait for all the pictures and information I will learn while I am there.  I will be eagerly returning home afterwards to blog all about it :)
Again, thank you to Vogue and everything you have done for us Influencers, and I can not wait to see you in October!

Aveda's Hair Re-pairing

Another fabulous Vogue Influencer Blog post!
1335969752.jpg
I was recently sent a full size sample of Aveda's new Hair RePairing Styling cream and a mini shampoo and conditioner.  I have been using the repair cream for about 5 days now, and my hair feels so much more manageable, and soft.  I love all of the natural ingredients in it as well, it makes me not feel as bad about what I am putting in my hair on a daily basis among other products.  I know it is still not good to heat style your hair everyday....but I do, and I feel much better about it with this product, it helps to protect my hair from that type of damage.  When I do style my hair with this cream it is healthier and my style looks better and lasts longer throughout the day.  I have extremely thin hair so sometimes it is hard for my styles to last all day while I am running around, but this product helps a lot. I am also trying to grow my hair out, and healthier hair grows faster!
If you are looking for a new styling product that helps repair the damage you have done to your hair, please give this a try, you wont be disappointed!

Summer is here! and if you love being outside as much as I do, you need to be preventing/protecting not only your skin from the sun's rays but also your hair! Lucky us, Aveda can take care of that as well! They have an SPF hair mist that will protect your hair from the sun and keep your color from fading as well.
Take care of your hair this summer with these great products that you can get at any Aveda Salon or http://www.aveda.com/  and keep your hair healthy and fashionable!

Betsey's Sad News

Betsey Johnson has been a huge love and inspiration since I was younger, not just her brand, but her as a person as well. As many of you fashion-lovers may know, Betsey Johnson LLC has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. As unfortunate as it is, as the company explained, it is what's best for the company right now.
When I first read it, I was completely shocked because I don't personally know anyone who doesn't love Betsey Johnson. Her clothes are lovable as is she.

I had the amazing opportunity of meeting Betsey a year ago for a breast cancer awareness luncheon, and she is the most kind-hearted person I've ever met. If I could choose a person or company to work for, it would be Betsey Johnson and the amazing fashion empire she has created.
I do not believe that this is the end of her company, while she will continue to focus on her moderate priced line, sold in stores like Macy's, she is a strong and hard working woman, and I believe she will bounce back from this, doing more cartwheels than ever!
As she is moving on, she will soon start to have her own TV show with her daughter LuLu, and I can not wait to see that!
She will also continue with her fashion show this fall in New York, and I am hoping to attend that as a result of an amazing internship I was able to be a part of this semester.
So, Betsey is still keeping herself busy and I know she will come out of this an even stronger woman!
For more details Women's Wear Daily has the full story, and fashionista.com has a good profile of it as well.
Just for the record, this is my favorite picture of Betsey:

Let's all support Betsey!

PLUSH ATTIRE

I have recently discovered this adorable clothing store on eBay, and thought I should share it with everyone :) It is called Plush Attire, and I have been in contact with their Marketing Director and he kindly gave me some information about the company that I think would be enjoyable for everyone to inform themselves about. I know when there is a new store opening or launching online, and someone doesn't tell me about it, I am sad, so read up!

I was able to select some pieces from their online store to create a fashion trend story with what they offer their customers in clothing. I chose to do this on dresses, because it is about to hit summertime, and what better way to start it off in a comfortable dress for day or night!

First of all, just the fact that this is a maxi dress, automatically makes this super trendy right now. Second, the color blocking is major right now as well as the peach/coral color.  For all my more endowed ladies with a little more curves, this is a plus size dress, and the shape of it is extremely flattering on many shapes.  The waistline hits at the smallest part of the waist and the vertical line down the middle will help elongate the body as well. The neckline is perfect for those who are busty, or not-so-blessed in that area. The length is great, hitting just at the ankle, I am short so I have a hard time find maxi dresses that will not drag a train all around me. It is also nice when you want to show off some cute new shoes. I am very much a gold girl when it comes to accesories, however, I believe that this dress needs some silver jewelry with it such as a few arm bracelets and earrings.  I want to show off this neckline so I would opt out of a necklace.

Again, another very trendy maxi dress with the multi watercolor pattern.  strapless is great for many body types.  However, if you are too busty up top you will need to be careful of overflowing and popping out! Yes, it has a horizontal pattern, but there is also vertical pleating right at the belly, and just the fact that it is a long dress, it creates a long slimming silhouette. What I love most about any maxi dress, is that it is literally the easiest thing to put on.  You don't have to match a top and bottom, you can just throw one on, grab some strappy sandals and a few accessories and your out the door!

I am going to move on to these two super comfy shirt/shift dresses.  The peach colored on is Rachel Roy and the silver and grey dress is Trina Turk.  Both amazing designers!  They are both loose and comfortable dresses but for two different occasions.  Rachel Roy dress is mostly daytime and the Trina Turk dress is more for a night out.  Both similar in shape and style, but two different events.  Both of these are flattering on any body type.  The Rachel Roy dress I would even belt it!  The Trina Turk dress is completely effortless glam.  If you were in a hurry and needed something for a night out but did have time to match something up, this is perfect; you wouldn't even need jewelry if you didn't want because of all the fun sequins.  Nothing is hotter than sequins right now for club wear, prom, and dressy attire.

This French Connection dress is stunning for a night out! It is a stretch knit dress with clustered gold sequin pattern.  I love the draping of this dress, especially, if you have a problem area in the tummy, the gathers and draping will serve as a vanishing act. The draping also gives it a similar look to the wrap dress that Diane Von Furstenburg made so popular.  This dress is bananas by itself, but if needing to bust it out in chilly weather, a pair of black tights and a blazer (depending on the event, you could do any color blazer, have fun with it!) and your set with an adorable outfit with the dress as the main attraction.

I am so excited and happy to be a part of promoting Plush Attire and all of the new business ventures they have coming soon! Follow them on Twitter and like them on Facebook for all of the updates and details.

Here is a little information on this company including that they will be launching a new website!
PlushAttire.com will be the NEW go to place for our best products. So far we have loaded inventory up for the site with Free People, 7 For All Mankind, Tory Burch, Diane Von Furstenburg, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Calvin Klein, Tahari, & Juicy, just to name a few. We connect with our customers via twitter, facebook, google +, tumblr, pinterest, flickr, & youtube. We release our very own Plush Attire Style Tips through these outlets as well as updates on the fashion designers/brands that we sell. We also encourage people to photograph themselves wearing any purchases from Plush Attire and so that we can create a customer photo album & give deals out that way.
All products are authentic and come with tags. We offer pants, casual and dress shirts, vests, dresses, blazers, sweaters, tank tops, jeans, sweatshirts, and more. Plush Attire will continually work with companies to bring more items to you at a great percentage off the retail value.

I hope you all enjoy and get the chance to check this store out and purchase some really great pieces. Don't forget to follow me on twitter: :)

BRAHMIN 2012

The time has come upon me to find a new spring handbag. However, I am poor. So unfortunate, right? But I can still look and talk about what I want!
The Vogue Influencer Network just opened up a review on Brahmin's hottest new bags for spring. The polka dots are always a must, but I am dying for the floral print that they have right now.  It would go with almost all of my summer clothing and its just the cutest darn thing.
They have it in a few different styles here it is in a mini satchel (well, at least mini for me):

I mean, how can you not love this?? Vogue sent me the anytime tote last spring in white, and I am still in love with that, even though I have almost worn it out. I can say that the construction of Brahmin's line is impeccable, and they last a long time.
What girl doesn't need a new wallet as well? I looked around on their website and found this one to match.  I love the color of this wallet, as well as how much room it provides, I try to stuff as much as I can in a wallet!

Detoxing Face Mask

Apparently I am on a beauty post kick lately, and today's post is about an amazing detoxing face mask that I found by Bethenny Frankel- yes, my favorite (no-longer-there) NY Housewife! Never fear, she has a new show on Bravo that is much better, and she has taken over the business world.  First, with her Skinnygirl margaritas, and now a skin care line.  What's next?

ANYWAY, I have never been one to use face masks because I have never found one I liked or that worked for me.  The ones that you peel off after they dry always hurt too much, and the regular ones never seemed to do anything for me. I was excited when I saw that Bethenny came out with her own skin care line, and to be honest at first, I only bought it because she made it.  But, that's okay because I ended up falling in love with it.

I have been on a little detox kick lately, (I bought a juicer a little over a month ago and it is the most amazing thing ever).
This mask literally does detox the skin on your face and has an amazing tingling sensation, that wasn't so amazing when I first tried it with a friend, we thought our faces were going to burn off.  The second time we did it it was a good tingle. It says to leave on for 5 minutes, but I usually leave it on longer, at least until the tingling stops. I also use it as a spot treatment overnight, and when I wake up the next morning my blemish is either ready to pop, extremely smaller, or gone!
It really is a great product and it really works! I plan to try her whole skin care line, but tomorrow I am going out to get the Body Detox Mask.  I hope it tingles like the face mask does.  Since I am doing all of these beauty posts, I will keep everyone updated.

Beautifully Even Skin

Today is going to be a beauty post, and with as many people I know who have this same problem as me, this is worth the read. No, I am not a Loreal spokeswomen and no one is making me do this, but I just have to rave about this for a minute.

I have a terribly uneven skin tone, and I cannot go anywhere without makeup, and lots of it. I have tried so many different products over the past couple of years, and have not found anything worth raving about. Most products I have bought before, I had seen a small improvement when the bottle was empty, and that is not approved by me.

Well, heaven-sent Loreal's new Youth Code Illuminating line with skin tone correctors is magical.  I have only had it for about 2 weeks, and my skin has drastically improved, and it literally illuminated my face when I put it on.  I am wearing less makeup, my redness is decreasing and the uneven parts are evening out. BEST PART: It is only $20 (Target). I am in love with everything Sephora related, but anything I find there for uneven skin tone is a major damage to my wallet.  I am just not okay with spending that much, especially if I don't know if it will work or not.  OTHER BEST PART: the jar isn't even close to being empty, and I already feel that I have amazing results.

So, if you are having problems with your uneven skin tone, or dark spots please give this a try.  It has given me amazing results, and I will continue to buy this for years to come! It is an amazing product at an amazing price that can't be beat with these kinds of results.

Stylist Essentials

As a stylist, or just in the fashion industry period, you need to always be prepared for fashion and beauty emergencies whether you are on a TV shoot, a fitting, or dressing a client for a major event.
Make sure to always have these items with you. You WILL need them.
I found a great little mini emergency kit at Francesca's that is perfect for beginners, and also just to have in your purse when your off-duty. It comes with these mini essentials:
Lip balm, floss, mints, nail file, clear nail polish, nail polish remover, hair spray, elastics, earring backs, stain remover, double sided tape, mini mending kit, deodorant, towelettes, band-aid, tampon, and pain reliever. Yes, all of these things fit in this tiny package that fits in my hand.

As mentioned, this is great to have in your purse as your own little emergency box; however, on the job, there will more than likely be more than one model and you always want to have backups so your not running to the store all the time for an emergency.
For a larger bag of emergency goodies I would include everything above, and of course some of those things can be brought to normal size instead of mini size. The following is also recommended :
-*MUST HAVE* a handheld steamer- you will always need this no matter what you are doing. I was caught steaming a bathing suit the other day for a TV appearance, so you never know what will have a few wrinkles that you need to get out.
-Sticky lint roller. I have a large one of these that I use before I leave the house, and I always keep a mini one in my purse. Usually, they come as a pack with a big and little one.
-Pins and safety pins. Always have different sizes for various occasions. You will most likely always have some last minute adjustments.
-Laundry sheets. You know those things you put in the dryer to make your clothes smell good? Yeah, they are fantastic for taming static, especially on your hair.
-Bobby pins. You can not go without these. They will always be needed for last minute fixes, or that time the hair stylists runs out of them.
-Superglue. For real. I was helping with a TV appearance about a week ago and an earring that we had borrowed from a local accessories boutique broke. The jewel had fallen out. It was the easiest fix.....if we had superglue. So, now I make sure I always have it because you never want to return something you borrowed, broken.
-A small pair of scissors. There is nothing I can think of that for any reason you would need a large pair of scissors, because you will mostly be cutting small strings, tags, etc.
-Nipple concealers. It's seams as if the fashion industry, especially the runways are all to familiar with the occasional peek-a-boo, and it just seems easier to save the poor models the embarrassment by preventing it with these.
-Nude underwear. Always have a few pairs of these, preferably in a thong style. Many times models can forget to wear these type of underwear so if they are on tv or a photo shoot, it doesn't show through the clothing.
-Lotion. When dealing with more revealing clothing or swimwear, the models skin needs to be ash free. Make sure it is fragrance and dye free, so it does not ruin the clothing. It also helps to make sure it is not greasy or oily so it does not soil the clothing.
-A few items of makeup. This can be your choice, you never know when you need that extra oomph of mascara (make sure to have disposable brushes) or eyeliner to tough things up.
-Makeup remover. Both in the pre-moistened wipes and the liquid. The wipes are great for all over, and the liquid is great for touch-ups.
-Q-tips. These work for everything from applying makeup, to taking it off and to help clean up nail polish and more!
-Keep a high fashion magazine or two in your bag as well. Models can get nervous sometimes, or if they are newer to the business they maybe uncomfortable and being able to look at successful models in a major magazine, can help ease their nerves by imitating some of the poses in the magazines, and give them a boost of confidence.
All of these are absolutely a must have and you will be a life-saver to many if you are prepared. Don't forget everything in your mini kit, and be sure to normal size everything and by in multiples.
This is a great way to start, and along the way you will add more supplies, as you find you need them, and don't forget to periodically check on your stash and make sure it is up to date, and if you run out of something, it was obviously needed so go get more!

What else do you put in your emergency bag?

Double Duty DIY

Today's post is a little DIY inspiration, and absolutely anyone can do it. It is also really great as a little craft project for little girls! You only need three things and your all set to make your own belt, that also doubles as a necklace!
First, start with 4 yards of rope. You can choose any style you want. I found this one at JoAnn fabrics, but there are so many to choose from!

Next, your going to need some tassels, and super glue.

Next step is to untwist the bottoms of each ends of the rope. Untwist about as long as the string at the top of the tassels. Place the string on the tassels in between them and twist the rope back together also twisting the string into them. Hold in place and use the super glue to mend them together and also in between the two rope pieces. And, anywhere you feel needs a little extra hold!

Wrap the finished product around your neck as many times as you want for your desired look as a layered necklace.

Same thing goes for the belt. I got it to wrap around me four times and then tied it in a bow (you can also just knot it without a bow) and let the tassels hang.

Viola!

Again, you can choose any type of rope, and you can also switch up what you put on the ends, like jewels. Be creative!

Vintage Valentine

Today's inspiration obviously comes from the fact that Valentines day is fast approaching, and with everyone rushing to buy gifts and flowers and what not, take a little time for yourself and think about sprucing yourself up with a cute little outfit you can wear on that special day, whether you have a significant other or not.  Yes, I have one of those, but I think of this day as more of an opportunity to just look extra cute instead of focusing on getting roses or going out to dinner. Since when do roses make you look pretty anyway? Maybe they add a little flair to your table for a week but thats it.

This first picture above is a little vintage inspiration with a few pieces I have put together.  The heart print dress is from ASOS and I just put an adorable little lace skirt from Forever21 over the bottom skirt of the dress to add something a little different, added a gold belt from GAP to bring it all together and voila!

Play around with your outfits, just because the stereotypical colors of Valentines day are pink and red, that does not limit you to wearing just those colors.  I just chose this dress because I thought it was extra cute and I am obsessed with hearts.  Just as long as you feel good in what you are wearing, do it! No matter the color.

Here is a basic purple bandage skirt and I put it together with two different shirts to create some color blocking:

The first picture and the one on the top right is a sheer loose top with small vertical lines made with studs.  I have one grey tights with both outfits and the bottom right picture is a silky fuschia top, that looks a little more business-like.  These are also great outfits for a Valentines day look, or just for whenever.  I love the color blocking.  With color blocking, you cant be shy. Grab two or three bright, bold colors and put them together, there are no rules as to which colors can go with what.  I just did this with a purple skirt, but you can pair pink colored tops with many other colored skirts as well.

Has anyone tried the color-blocking look? Send me your pictures, and you will be featured on this blog!

Many of my everyday outfits are posted on POSE.  If you are at all into fashion, this is an addictive must have.  Follow me @stylorexia

What I Bought From Missoni for Target, AND What I Plan on Still Buying.

Well, seems as if, I have underestimated how busy the Target stores would be in Lexington for Missoni. I went around 5 in the evening and while they were not busy with people shopping, they were pretty much sold out of EVERYTHING. I was quite upset. I purchased three items, and only one of those items I purchased was on my original list. boo. So, this is what I got:

Missoni for Target® V-Neck Combo Chiffon Sweater - Multicolor Print
Chiffon and Knit Sweater

Women's MISSONI for Target® Zig Zag Pattern Flats - Multicolor
These Awesome Flats.

Missoni for Target® Zig Zag Knee High Socks - OS - Blue/Purple

And a pair of purple and black zig-zag knee-high socks.

NOW. What I WANTED:

The flats- check!
Missoni for Target® Women's Shoulder Bag - Passione
This tote- I am tired of breaking down my Brahmin purse to carry around my books in at school, I need this.

Missoni for Target® V-Neck Cardigan - Multicolor Zigzag Print
This sweater- I can't get over the fact that I don't have this cardigan in my closet right now.

Missoni for Target® Printed Tee - Black/White Zigzag Print
This Tee- Super cute.

Missoni for Target® Space-Dye Knit Cardigan - Gold Zigzag Print
This sweater- sigh.

I think I am more angry about the stupid ebay shoppers who came and just grabbed armfuls of whatever they wanted and are now selling it on ebay for regular Missoni prices. I can be understanding that you need to make money, But I mean come on, leave something for everyone else, and triple the price, really? I'm gonna be mean, and say I hope no one buys it from you. and yes that makes me feel better.
They are restocking their supply tomorrow, so I will hope to venture over there after work to see if there is anything still left, and you better watch out, cause yes, I will push you over.

Missoni for Target

Today, Target opened its doors and website for fashion feens ready to purchase the fabulous creations by Missoni. In my opinion, this is Target's best designer collaboration thus far. So, since I am in class and can't be at fashion week, I am more excited about this since Target is just right down the road.

The family at Missoni designed an entire new collection for Target unlike any collection they have done in the past and it's affordable for people in college like me :) Of course, they still have the signature zig zag pattern and bright colors. They also have a home line as well, totaling a 400 piece collection with clothes and everything. When I saw some of the pieces for the home collection I so wished that I had my own home to decorate with all the Missoni goodies.

As I was trying to collect some pictures of this collection from target.com it seems as if, Missoni for Target has single handedly shut down their server. The website was so busy, that it literally couldn't handle anymore and shut down. (glad I didn't wake up early this morning to shop online) Even though this is unfortunate, if I were part of the Missoni family, a part of me would be jumping for joy knowing that my brand is that popular.
Hopefully soon, the site will be back up and running, but in the meantime I am going to a Target store to shop Missoni and I will post pictures later of all my goodies!

Fashion Week

I would do ANYTHING right now, for someone to quickly invent teleporting and be able to teleport me to fashion week. Being a poor college student is no bueno. HOWEVER, my lovely friend, Lauren found a great way to be able to follow everything thats going on (minus seeing the beutiful garments right before your eyes) online.

http://mashable.com/2011/09/05/how-to-follow-new-york-fashion-wee

This is a quick link that gives the main people to follow and the main happenings of what is going on during fashion week. Mashables is a great website that combines everything that is going on and leaves open for discussion and comments. Pretty much everything you need to know about following fashion week online, is on this link by Lauren Indvik.

If you love everything Fashion, and you are as upset as I am about not being there, then get in on this! Also, you need to have a twitter, if you dont, then your crazy. Even if you don't do the whole "hey friend, follow me and ill follow you back thing" like me, you should still have one for this. Honestly, I just follow for the fashion; with as much information that is put out there on twitter and with twitter-only giveaways, its worth it. So overcome your resistence to social media technology and just get over it and get in on all the great information that is awaiting!

I know I commented on the website, but don't forget that my favorite, Betsey Johnson is live streaming her show on Sept. 12 at 6:00pm on her website, http://www.betseyjohnson.com/home/index.jsp and on her facebook, http://www.facebook.com/#!/xobetseyjohnson  I watched this last time she did it and it was a lot of fun getting to see everything backstage before the show starts.

I will also be retweeting many of the exciting events and the main happenings of fashion week as well as what I like so far and what I don't like, so you can follow me too and tweet me any questions you might have :)

Fashion-Related Pet Peeves: Campus Editions

I am absolutely amazed at the things people will wear to class on a college campus. Maybe it's just because I'm clothing minded and I can't help but look at and analyze some peoples outfits, but I mean come on... Did you look in the mirror this morning?

One of my biggest annoyances is when your bra straps are showing. I always happen to sit behind girls who always seem to have that malfunction. Clean it up girls! If your wearing a strapless, racerback, or any other type of top where you should be concealing those straps, do it! Wear a strapless bra. A little endowed? Get a bra strap clip, I have tons and they work wonders. It just looks a little sloppy when they are hanging out for everyone to see, there is a reason they are called UNDERgarments.

Next, who wears pajamas to class? And I am not just talking about sweatpants and a t-shirt, I am talking about cartoon plastered pajamas. Really? I realize that many times you wake up late for class or you want to sleep in, but look halfway presentable. When you do that you look like you don't care; not just about yourself, but about anything. First impressions say a lot about someone and you can never get that back. Throw on some jeans super fast, and a nice top. Or better yet, lay out your clothes the night before so when you are running late you at least have something better than your spongebob pajamas because I will take a picture of you.

Last pet peeve of the day. High heels. Super cute, not for campus. You can barely walk after 5 minutes. I have yet to see a girl walk all around campus in high heels and not look like their knees are about to collapse under them because they hurt so bad. I have a lot of heels, wedges, platforms, pumps, etc., but I would never dream of wearing them around all day on campus walking up and down hills and to the other side and back. Yes, you will turn heads, but it will be the "wow, she looks uncomfortable, and dumb" head turn. Save them for the club, dinner with girls, or if you wear them to work, but save us the laughter and don't bring them to campus.

Thanks for reading my rants today, hopefully someone gained an inch or two of common sense :)

Wardrobe Essentials: What everyone should have in their closet.

**Sorry, I had to take the picture down because for some reason they wouldn't show up, But hopefull everyone gets the point :) email me with any questions**

Season after season, trend after trend, there is nothing better than having those basic, timeless essentials you can go back to and wear as is, or spruce them up!
There is always a variation on what everyone thinks should be in everyone’s wardrobe but we will discuss the top 5 that are pretty universal and universally, you need to have.

LITTLE BLACK DRESS AND THE BLACK TUX
First, lets start with that little black dress for the ladies and the black tux or suit for men.  These are so basic and timeless and there is no reason you shouldn’t have them.  Ladies, no matter the budget, you can always find a great little black dress that will look great on you and that you can go back to time after time.  There are so many different styles and silhouettes of the black dress your options are endless.  Make sure that the dress is great quality; finding a dress for 20 bucks is great, but sometimes you have to wonder, why is it 20 bucks? So, always make sure it is a great dress that will last you a long time. Fellas, a tux or suit might be a little more expensive than that little black dress, but every once in a while you can find a great steal.  This is important to have especially if you attend many business parties or dinners and don’t have the time to shop or don’t like to shop.  Oh, and one more thing, make best friends with a tailor. They will be able to make that suit off the rack look like the designer made it just for you.

 WHITE SHIRTS
Next on the list for men and women is a white shirt; both a t-shirt and a dress shirt.  A crisp white dress shirt goes with anything from a skirt to jeans, to dress pants and shorts.  It is a great basic to have and always easy to throw on if you are in a hurry and need to look your best.  Now, a t-shirt, yes a plain cotton or polyester t-shirt for men and women is needed.  This is something great to act as a creative base to your wardrobe.  You can throw a blazer or sweater over it, or for the ladies you can wear it alone and pile tons of chunky necklaces on.  These are definitely two essentials to have to look effortlessly stylish.

                                                                    BLAZERS

A blazer is the next essential that should be in your wardrobe.  For men and women you can wear and blazer with anything these days: dress pants, shorts, jeans, skirts, and dresses.  Black is a basic color that goes with everything, so I recommend that as well as another neutral such as beige or grey to switch it up a bit. Also, why not add a little color? I have a great neon pink and orange blazer that I pair with my denim all the time.  It something different and you will stand out and be sure to keep the compliments rolling in.

                                                                   DRESS PANT
Dress pants are something you can wear from the office to a night out and even to church on Sunday.  Black is a must have because again, they go with everything, but I also recommend another color of your choice whether it be brown or white, navy or cream, they all will match something in your wardrobe and always look timeless.

 LONG COATS
Last, but not least, a long coat. For men and women both this is something that will always look fabulous over whatever you have on.  And some people will only see the outer part anyway, so if your style is not so much up to par one day, throw that on, tie it up and your already looking fabulous!

Also, one last tip for always looking fabulous and thrown together in a hurry in a pair of great sunglasses.  For men, I love the Ray Ban style or aviators.  For women, anything that flatters your face shape is great the bigger you can handle the better!

Savvy Reincarnation

Summer so far in Kentucky has been HOT HOT HOT and HUMID! So, when the humidity is present it is nice to find something to occupy my time creatively. So my current projects are reviving an old dress, an old pair of booties and a few shirts! As I complete I'll post pictures today I completed my dress.

The dress started as a plain fuschia dress and I added feather detail and jewels around the neckline as well as a jeweled ribbon belt that I tacked on in a few places.
I can't wait to put my hair up in a bun put on some black patent pumps and go out for a night on the town with this great reincarnated dress.  AND there's so many jewels I don't even have to worry about jewelry. :)
This was one of the most exciting and fun projects that I have done and I am so excited to created some more goodies for myself and post them on here to get everyone's opinion!
Feel free to leave comments good or bad.

Their Questions, My Answers.

As I continue on my assignments for the London College of Style, I am going to share one I just completed.  They have asked me a series of questions to do with different styles of clothing on different body types and I had to come up with the best answer, so these are also some tips to learn when it comes to your body type.

Their Questions:

1. Why does the platform shoe suit most female body shapes?
2. Name a type of trouser that suits very few body shapes
3. Name a type of trouser that suits all female body shapes
4. What female shape does not suit a skirt cut on the bias?
5. What is an empire line and which shapes do they suit and why
6. Describe the look of a ‘drop waisted dress’ and tell us why it will not suit a
pear shaped woman
7. Will a trench coat look good on all?
8. Name a top that flatters an apple but does not look good on an hourglass and
why
9. Which body shape does a fitted t-shirt best flatter?
10. Will a cap sleeve suit all body shapes?  If not, why?
11. Name three necklines that do not suit a pear shaped woman
12. Name one neckline that suits all body shapes
13. Name one neckline that does not suit an hourglass figure

My answers:
1. It adds height and with the extra platform at the bottom, it can help widen where necessary and balance the leg and hip out for a proportionate shape.

2. Pleated front pants, because they can break up the leg and make them look wider so it is not ideal for pear shapes, apples, or hourglass which all have wider hips, so it will essentially make the hip look even wider.

3.  Cropped trouser or cropped jeans

4. Pear shaped; because of the larger bottom, the bias cut lines will widen the bottom half even more, and the fact that it tapers towards the bottom as well will not help either.

5.  An empire line is usually fitted at the bust and then flares out right below. It fits mostly all shapes, but be careful with the top heavy shapes because it could potentially draw to much attention to the large bust line and create disproportion. So, it will depend on the type of neckline there is to go with it.

6.  The look of a drop waisted dress is essentially just a dress where the line hits more at the hips rather than the waist, so it makes the torso look longer.  It would not suit a pear shaped woman because the horizontal line of where it stops will stop on her larger hips accentuating them and making them appear even larger so they should opt for a higher waisted dress to define the waist.

7.  Yes, it can help define the waist for a slim, hourglass, and top heavy, and conceal the hips of a pear by just grazing over them and disguising the tummy of an apple.

8.  Peplum top, because for an apple shape the peplum will help widen the hips to make it more balanced with the tummy and breasts, but for an hourglass it will accentuate the hips too much and could make her look like a pear shape.

9.  It best suits a slender/athletic body shape, because if the shirt was too big and baggy it might swamp them, but if it is too tight then it will show the lack of waist and no definition. So, A perfect fitted t-shirt is the best choice to show off her body.

10.  No. For an hourglass shape you want some type of embellishment on the shoulders to keep that perfect shape even with the hips.  For a pear shape, you also want some detail or structure on the shoulders to help balance out the hips.  For a top-heavy shape, it might be too tight and bring out the top heaviness even more.  As for an apple shape, it depends, they are blessed with small arms so there is not problem there, but everyone’s apple shape is different and will depend on your client.

11.  Mandarin, strapless, and plunge are all types that will not suit a pear shape because they all do nothing for the breasts and shoulders which need to be widened a bit to balance with the bottom half.

12.  A sweetheart neckline will suit all body types to help enhance or flatter the bust for all types, and it is a wider neckline so it will not make anything appear smaller for pears, slim, and hourglass, so they can keep in proportion.

13.  Vest narrow.  It will make her look disproportioned to her hips.

I hope you all enjoy and if there are any questions just ask!
